چکیده

Silverman, Sidney J. (U.S. Army Biological Laboratories, Fort Detrick, Frederick, Md.), James F. Drawdy, and Donald A. Kautter. Failure of animal passage to increase the virulence of Listeria monocytogenes. J. Bacteriol. 86:92-94. 1963.-Three strains of Listeria monocytogenes, JHH, A4413, and 53P380, were serially passed through mice, guinea pigs, or monkeys via the intracerebral, intraperitoneal, and intraspinal routes, respectively. The first two strains had been maintained on laboratory medium for some time; strain 53P380, received in the brain of a sheep that had died of listeriosis, was never inoculated into laboratory media. The virulence of the strains was tested by the intraperitoneal or respiratory route. An apparent increase in virulence for mice of strain JHH was observed after animal passage. However, if the same strain maintained on Tryptose Agar and Brain Heart Infusion broth was injected in a suspension of normal mouse brain or spleen and liver, there was no difference in the virulence of the strain between animal-passaged and media-grown cells. An adjuvant effect was noted also with brothgrown cells suspended in mineral oil (Bayol F) or in alcohol or acetone extracts of normal mouse brain. A decrease in virulence for guinea pigs occurred with strain 53P380 after a series of passages by the intraperitoneal route in the same animal.

Investigating the prevalence of resistance genes in Listeria monocytogenes isolated from food and clinical samples

Background: Listeriosis can be fatal for vulnerable groups of society. The disease has been widespread in recent years due to the large consumption of dairy and meat products. There is little information about the susceptibility of antibiotics and the pattern of Listeria monostigenesis gene resistance in Iranian society. Accordingly, the present study was conducted to investigate the antibiotic...

sigmaB-dependent gene induction and expression in Listeria monocytogenes during osmotic and acid stress conditions simulating the intestinal environment.

Listeria monocytogenes must overcome a variety of stress conditions in the host digestive tract to cause foodborne infections. The alternative sigma factor sigma(B), encoded by sigB, is responsible for regulating transcription of several L. monocytogenes virulence and stress-response genes, including genes that contribute to establishment of gastrointestinal infections. A quantitative RT-PCR as...

پراکندگی ژن CtpA در لیستریا مونوسیتوژنزDistribution of ctpA Gene in Listeriamonocytogenes

Background & Aim: Listeria monocytogenes has potentiality to cause serious invasive disease in humans and in more than 40 animal species. L. monocytogenes is transmitted from soft cheese, milk, raw meat and sausages to human. The present study was undertaken to find the frequency of L. monocytogenes in poultry, domestic animals, sausage, cheese, milk, and also to determine ctpA(copper t...

Isolation of Listeria monocytogenes from Meat and Dairy Products

Introduction: This study was intended to determine the presence and distribution of Listeria monocytogenes in various meat and dairy products from Qazvin Province by culture followed by biochemical and morphological assays. The identity of the isolates was further obtained by amplification of prfA gene in bacteria isolates. This gene is a transcriptional activator of virulence gene ex...

Biosynthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and its Inhibitory Effect on Growth and Virulence of Listeria monocytogenes

Background: Biosynthesis of nanoparticles using microorganisms, enzymes, and plant extracts is regarded as an alternative to chemical methods. Microalgae appear to be an efficient biological platform for nanoparticle synthesis as they grow rapidly and produce large biomass at lower cost. Objectives: The possibility of silver nanoparticles biosynthesisby freshwater green microalgae, Chlamydomona...
